We have two computers in a server room that my coworker and I VPN into to do our Alteryx work. The machine I use has been longstanding, is a bit slower but rarely has issues. His machine is newer and faster but more often does not cooperate with Alteryx very well and will sporadically crash/quit the workflow unexpectedly even though my machine wouldn't have any problem running the same workflow (example error attached, but he has also gotten pipe ended and other errors).
An Example: Last week he was able to create a 250M record Calgary database which took his machine about 24 hours to complete but there were no issues. Today he was simply trying to read into the workflow files that total 800M records (which usually is no big deal) but his computer blue screen and crashed. Our IT team said that AlteryxEngineCmd.exe was the program that crashed the computer. His computer crashes or he receives Alteryx errors like the above a few times a week.
Any idea why this might be occurring and what else we can try? Below I list out a handful of approaches we have taken to try and troubleshoot this:
- We have an active case with Alteryx Support but this has not led anywhere (yet).
- We have tried using the same version of designer that I am using as well as the newest version
- We have swapped out the memory on the machine (his has 90GB, mine has 40GB)
- We have turned off Amp engine
- We have overridden Global memory setting to use a lower amount but the machine still gets to 99% utilization
I am using Windows Server 2016 Essentials and I believe his computer is using Windows 11. The only other thing IT is thinking of trying is to install on his computer the Server 2016 OS, however, they are reluctant becuase it is a very old OS and might be depricated soon anyway.
