Allocating requested memory would be more than available physical memory.

Hello,

I am trying to read an excel file using an input tool in Alteryx but Alteryx is giving me this message and the process is taking more than a minute to complete

"Info: Designer x64: The Designer x64 reported: Allocating requested memory would be more than available physical memory. Reverting to 37.2 GB of memory"

Excel File: 4.5 MB in size with around 600 rows and 7 columns

Workflow: 1 tool (Input Tool)

What should I do?

hey @tjamal1

That message shows when you are setting too much ram to be used within Alteryx.

If you head to edit user settings:

You can see what the system settings are for the memory limit:

You may have just set this too high - i would untick override system settings and try again.

Additionally, what may help, is restoring default settings:

Hope this helps!

Hi @TheOC, thanks for the reply, The default value is showing 49136 Megabyte. Should I change this?

hey @tjamal1

That would be ~49gb, which explains why your alteryx has scaled it down.

Uncheck Override System Settings for now, and then try running your workflow and see if its any quicker.

Hope this helps,
TheOC

I Uncheck Override System Settings but it did not any quicker.

Where is the file saved? on your local machine or on a network drive or something?

Local Machine where Alteryx has installed.

@TheOC Do you think it's due to 4.5 MB Excel file?

@tjamal1

Nah a 4.5mb excel file would take less than a couple of seconds to open.

I suspect something else is going on.

Can you try another excel file? is it all files?

I would also suggest a pc restart, and maybe a reinstall.

Cheers,
TheOC
