using VM with alteryx versus server use

I received a question from someone using Alteryx licenses on a virtual machine and he is worried that this setup will not be available anymore in the future and he might have to shift to go for server setup. Anyone has any knowledge/info about this?

Hi @bobd

Can you elaborate on how you are using Alteryx today?

If you are using a Desktop scheduler, then you may need to shift to the server in the near future.

Hope this helps.

Yes they are using desktop scheduler. What is the reason for the shift in the future?

Hi @bobd : the main reason for the shift to Server is to offer your organization a better way to scale and collaborate. Alteryx is investing resources into new features of Alteryx Server so that organizations can not only schedule their workflows, but also collaborate with their peers by saving their workflows to Collections, governing their workflows with built-in version control and organizational features, higher security with features such as built-in AD authentication. Server also allows for a self-service experience for customers at your organization to retrieve output files themselves with no license required.

That all being said - Desktop Automation will still be supported, but there will be no new features added by our development team.

I would highly recommend the shift to Alteryx Server - sooner rather than later to get the realized benefit! ROI Calculator
