Hi,

I work in mainframes technology in IT industry. i am considering a switch to Alteryx and learnt the same. I wanted to know if learning ALTERYX alone is sufficient or i should learn any additional technology like tableau, SQL etc.. is required to get a job/career related to ALTEYX?

Thanks,

Krishna Bommu

Hi Krishna @KRISHNABOMMU !

It's always good to learn Alteryx with a few other skills as well.

I would suggest to learn SQL, Excel, Alteryx, Python, and a BI tool of your choice (Tableau / Qlik / PowerBI - click on them to learn more).

But that's just the technical stack. You need some business domain knowledge as well. Fields like finance, actuarial, compliance, risk, sales, marketing, operations, etc. - all require you to know the business for you to recommend best practices / analytics consulting as well.

Alteryx is akin to a Swiss Knife. It can do a lot of things, and it alone is pretty powerful. But coupled with the rest? You'll be unstoppable,

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer me! In the stack which you mentioned i already knew SQL (we use SQL queries in mainframe DB2 database, Excel, Alteryx and Python). what i do NOT KNOW is   BI tool like  (Tableau / Qlik / PowerBI)

Also worked for various clients from domains like finance, health care, payroll, Logistics, life insurance.

With the above knowledge will i be able to start attending interviews? or i should learn BI tools also?

TIA

Don't wait @KRISHNABOMMU ! Just go and interview. If you keep waiting, nothing happens!

Even if you don't get the job (or jobs), going for interviews helps you prepare your soft skills and speaking capabilities. You get better each time, and you can gauge what questions they will ask.

Technical interviews also strengthen your abilities each time you take them. So don't wait!

BI Tools can be learned pretty easily to be very honest. But to be a master at them takes a lot of time.

Go for it my friend!

These are the words of CONFIDENCE.   Even though i have 18 years of IT industry experience in mainframe, when it comes to shifting technology it needs some kind good words and that's what exactly you have done. you are a good human being! way to go..

I have learnt the Alteryx desktop designer from Udemy's course Alteryx bootcamp videos. Also, i have solved some use cases from Kaggle.

how can i list some live Alteryx projects in the resume to attend the interviews? any thoughts/ideas will be really helpful?

TIA,

Krishna

Hi @KRISHNABOMMU !

Great to hear that you're doing a lot with Alteryx now! The best way to start is to use the Maveryx community (you're in it here) and to showcase your skills by helping others solve their issues in the forums, showcasing your ideas, writing blog articles, and making your own macros/tools!

If you'd like to have a page of your own, I can recommend for you to have a Google Page setup and showcase your workflows there as well. But if you ask me, the best mark of someone who is proficient in Alteryx is through certifications and activeness on this site.

I highly recommend for you to start your certification journey here: https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Certification/bd-p/product-certification

All the best my friend!

Hi,

the Alteryx trial version expired in 30 days and i have learnt using them to solve some Kaggle use cases. If i would like to renew the license, is there a way to do it?

Hi @KRISHNABOMMU - I think it is best for you to speak with your Alteryx supplier for an extension/full license version. I do not think anyone in the community can advise you on that as we do not have control over licensing. Hope this helps!
