Alteryx Designer Cloud
The moment we’ve been waiting for is here! Users can now leverage the award-winning, drag-and-drop Designer UI they are familiar with in Alteryx Designer Cloud. The new Designer Cloud release also features a powerful interactive results grid that shows users the results of their data transformations in real-time, as well as the ability to use smart sampling and pushdown processing to save time and processing resources. Finally, with Designer Cloud all access, users can connect to their data, wherever it lives, with built-in data connectivity to over 50 sources.
We are also excited to announce the launch of Reporting for Designer Cloud. Reporting helps data workers frictionlessly share data insights across all levels of an enterprise making it easy to create, share, and consume reports. With the click of a button, analysts and data engineers can now leverage Reporting in Designer Cloud to democratize access to their analysis.
Alteryx Machine Learning
It's been a little over a year since our launch of Alteryx Machine learning, our flagship AutoML product that brings machine learning models to more users across the organization. Since then, we have consistently delivered enhancements that make this product even easier to use. For February, we have two quality-of-life enhancements that have been eagerly awaited from our customers.
The first is the ability to apply bulk edits during the data prep step. This enables users to change the datatype of multiple columns at the same time instead of having to change them individually. This much awaited enhancement can speed up the process of getting data ready for analysis.
A menu will now appear during the data prep step, enabling you to change data types of any or all columns and then run a single time.
We’ve also released the ability for Alteryx Machine Learning to recommend primitives during feature engineering. For those that don’t know, Feature Engineering is the process of calculating new predictors, or features, to make it easier for machine learning to uncover patterns in data. It does this by using primitives as building blocks to create new features. Machine Learning can now recommend these primitives that will enhance your data and increase model accuracy.
For example, you could input data with a datetime column and Machine Learning will recommend a column that classifies the dates into “weekday” or “weekend.” It’s just another way this product makes decisions easy when going through the ML process.
Alteryx Machine Learning can now recommend primitives that can make your model more accurate.

@maria_hoThanks but yes, I still have questions, maybe to be answered in an other blog post. From what I understand, Designer Cloud and Designer Desktop are far more different that I expected. Maybe a side-by-side example of how you make an in-db worfklow on both would help to understand the differences. (I tried to get a trial but I still have an access denied for the moment.. so I can't test by myself).
Correct me if I'm wrong but you can't import a wf made on Designer Desktop to Designer Cloud ? Or the contrary?
You cannot yet import workflows, but we are working on a migration utility.
In the cloud, workflows are automatically processed using in-DB without the need for further setup if they are connected to Snowflake.
The Designer Cloud they currently have is the old Trifacta experience, which is quite different, but once you receive access to your trial, you will note that the experiences are very similar, and in many cases, identical to Designer Desktop.
Have had a little play around with Designer Cloud and quite enjoying the instant results preview! The tools/functions and such are still very limited in comparison to Desktop but looking forward to seeing future versions and development. Can I ask if the certification team are working to tailor the exams more towards DC? I was going to try them at the weekend but soon noticed that the learning pathways and certifications very much still focus on the Trifacta side of this.
@DataNath - it is on the Certification roadmap for later this year to begin revising the Designer Cloud exams. We want to wait until the updates to the product slow a bit before we tackle them. In the interim, the team will be working on a Cloud micro-credential to be released this summer. Stay tuned!
