Email Tool using an Oauth-based Azure Connection doesn't work

Issue

 

When Email tool is setup with OAuth authentication using Data Connection Manager (DCM), you receive any of the following error messages:
 

Email (3) Record#1: Func 'curl_easy_perform' failed, ret = 67, desc = Login denied

Email (2) Record#1: Invalid JSON.

Environment Details

 

• Alteryx Designer
  • Version: 2022.3.

Cause

Setup of the Azure AD environment might not have been correct.

There is a known defect in Designer version 23.1: Defect TDYN-520 - Email tool errors with “Login denied” error when attempting to send email to multiple recipients. The workflow will successfully send email to first recipient and fail with the second one returning “Login Denied” error. The problem only persists when using basic username/password authentication. This behavior is affecting version 23.1, whereas working fine in 22.3. The fix is targeted for  2023.1.1 patch 2
