A: Yes! The Core Micro-Credentials do not require you to have passed any of the other exams. The exam prep guides are a great place to begin to prepare for the exams.
Q: Do I need to pass the Foundation Micro-Credential before taking the Core Micro-Credentials?
A: No, you do not need to pass the Foundation Micro-Credential or any other exam before attempting any of the Core Micro-Credentials.
Q: Can I take the Core Micro-Credentials in any order?
A: Yes. The Core Micro-Credentials are designed to be taken in any order. You can review the exam prep guides for more information about the specific content on each exam.
Q: Do I have to take all the Core Micro-Credentials?
A: No. You can take as few or as many of the exams as you want!
Q: I passed one of the Core Micro-Credential exams. What badges will I receive?
A: For each exam you pass, you will receive the corresponding badge on your Community profile as well as an email from ClassMarker with your exam results, a graphic to share online, and a link to download your certificate.
Q: When will my Core Micro-Credential expire?
A: All Core Micro-Credentials will expire 2 years after passing the exams. You will be eligible to recertify 1 year after passing the exam.
Q: I passed all four Core Micro-Credential exams. What badges will I receive?
A: You will receive a full Core Certification Community badge and Credly badge for your Core Certification. To receive the full Core Certification, you need to pass all four exams before any of them expire (2 years).
The expiration date for each of the four Core Micro-Credentials will be updated to the most recent exam passing date. The expiration of the full Core Certification will be 2 years from the most recent Core Micro-Credential exam passing date.
Q: Will my Core Micro-Credential renew any other certifications?
A: Each of the Core Micro-Credentials is separate and passing one will not renew the others UNTIL you pass all four (see above).
Q: I passed the full Core Certification. Will I also receive the Core Micro-Credential certifications?
A: No. You will not receive Community badges for the Micro-Credentials unless you are eligible to take them and pass.
Q: I already have the full Core Certification. Can I take the Core Micro-Credential exams?
A: If you passed the full Core exam more than a year ago, you will be eligible to take the Core Micro-Credential exams.
If you passed the full Core exam less than a year ago, the Core Micro-Credential exams will not be available.
Passing a Core Micro-Credential exam will not affect your existing full Core Certification. When you pass all four Core Micro-Credential exams, you will recertify your full Core Certification for 2 more years from the most recent exam passing date.
Q: I passed the full Core exam. Why do the Core Micro-Credential exam cards say “CERTIFIED”?
A: When you pass the full Core exam, you are no longer eligible to take the Core Micro-Credentials. The Micro-Credential exam cards indicate that you are “CERTIFIED” on Core.
Q: I passed all four Core Micro-Credential exams. Why does the full Core exam card say “CERTIFIED”?
A: When you pass all four Core Micro-Credential exams, you are issued a full Core Certification. The full Core exam card indicates that you are “CERTIFIED” on Core.
Q: Will I be able to take the Advanced exam after passing a Core Micro-Credential exam?
A: You can take the Advanced exam once you have become Core certified.
There are now two ways to become Core certified: pass the full Core exam OR pass all four of the Core Micro-Credential exams. Your Advanced exam card will then show you are eligible.
Q: Is earning Core Certification through the Core Micro-Credentials equivalent to earning it by taking the full Certification?
A: Yes! The Certification Team understands that some individuals prefer to earn Certification in smaller increments. The Core Micro-Credentials meet this need, as each individual Core Micro-Credential represents one of the four domains on the full Core Certification.
