Women of Analytics
On the special occasion of International Women's Day, I'd like to share something - something selfless - with you, on behalf of the AlteryxForGood Team, here in Bangalore, IN.
The Passion Project
This is a story of passion, compassion, belief, will, grit, team work and a winner’s mindset. The #OneHellaRoadTrip started from a simple conversation about sharing the passion for doing something selfless that brings a smile on the face of someone who only dreams of the privilege that often we take for granted. We believed that in it’s true essence, “Privileged are those who helped the underprivileged”.
That’s when we realized the opportunity had been in front of us all this while and now it was all about connecting the right dots at the right time. Shramik Naari Sangh is an NGO that stands for the empowerment of women (child NGO to Shrimad Rajchandra Aatma Tatva Research Centre, an NGO formed for the dissemination of peace). It is run end-to-end by women and provides employment opportunities to tribal women across 85 villages in the district of Raigadh. SaNiSa has 4 sub-brands with different product lines running globally and in our initial conversations, we were overjoyed by their understanding of the importance of recording data digitally (Imagine data on excels across customers, donors, brands, products and cities).
With positivity, team spirit, laptops, Alteryx Tees and a vision to change lives #InTheBagPackOfAnAlteryxEnthusiast, we set out on a mission to alter everything, post work, on the Friday eve of 2nd Feb'19. On our arrival, we were welcomed by the NGO with selfless love and warmth, like family. While spending time with folks who were heading the various initiatives, we found opportunities to position manual efforts more effectively using trend and performance reporting thereby increasing sales resulting in higher turnover, maximize donations using trend and forecast, standardize data collection and create a master database which would act as a one-stop-shop, formalize salary structure using unstructured data creating reusable format in industry standards; all using Alteryx. It helped us save hours of their effort which could then be reinvested into motivating and upskilling women as well as making better decisions to accelerate the kind of growth that has the potential to create a ripple effect given 75% of India’s population today, is rural.
With 2 tyre punctures in the middle of nowhere on a highway, overnight jamming and story-telling sessions to keep the driver awake, food and sleep breaks, exploring Alteryx expansively to find more creative solutions, memorable conversations with the NGO folks, the underprivileged women and children (Some data-altering, some life-changing), our 2000 km drive taught us that it is a privilege in itself to be able to share your privilege with someone who only dreams of it every single day.
Specially, to be a woman standing for a woman makes the world an unimaginably powerful place. This women's day, let's pledge to help more and more women explore their full potential and let's start it right here with #WomenOfAnalytics!
