Challenge #220: Hedge Detection

This week's challenge was submitted by @wwatson - Thanks for your submission!

In this week's challenge, a farmer has 7 fields which are all bound by hedges. He provides you with a series of spatial points defining the corners of the fields.

He would like you to calculate the total area of the farm in Sq Km, the perimeter of the farm in Km, the area and perimeter of each field and the total length of the hedges on the farm.

I hate my solution. I think it's far too "hard-coded" but I couldn't see how to solve the problem more dynamically.

I tried a bunch of ways to generate the polygons without hard coding, but Field 7 broke any approach I can think of. So here's my hard coded solution:

The hedge length stopped me for a few minutes trying to find a solution with spatial tools, but algebra wins with the Formula tool. Ended up with a similar Text Input as other solutions to map the points of each polygon.

Another fun one. Couldn't figure out a way to mathematically assign the points to farms, but once I got past that manual input the rest flowed

Thinking of the hedges as line segments, made individual segments using Multi Row Formula. Interestingly, the Unique tool treats segments that start at point a and end at point b as unique from those that start at point b and end at point a. So, created a name for the hedges that contained the start and end points and "uniqued" on that field.

that was an excellent challenge. i hardcoded all the field mappings (sadly).. 1 to map all the fields.. and 1 for the picket.. might think about this one and return to it before I look at some of solutions

I spent waaaay too long trying and failing to implement concave hull and edge-detection algorithms in Alteryx to try to dynamically build the individual fields (reminded me of some of the 2019 Advent of Code problems!) In the end, like everyone else, I ended up building a manual lookup table.
