Trickier than I thought until I realised that DateTimes would be easier to work with than Times. Managed to solve this with two tools in the end:

I didn't want to use Generate Row tool, thinking that on a real size data generating every minute would create a massive dataset, also it seems like a direct solution and I was interested to find if there is another way. And of course it is with Alteryx!

Could also do it in two tools but then my already hard-to read formula in multi-row tool would be even worse, so I decided to leave 3 tools.

I'm not sure if my method is the most optimal or not - basically I created a distinct record for each minute that existed and then used a pair of summarize tools. You could also use a count_distinct and cut the second summarize.

This took longer than I wanted. I was able to to use DateTimeParse to parse the time, but couldn't create 24H time properly using DateTimeAdd without having a date as part of the field. I had to add today to the string before I could use it and then it was easy afterwards.

Converted the times into actual time fields, accounting for the AM/PM. Started down the path of using a MultiRow Formula tool, followed by a DateTimeDiff to calculate the number of minutes. This wound up being a problem because some of the enter times, when updated to be after the previous exit times, were after the exit time. Didn't want to deal with those problems.

Soon realized that I could just generate the minutes in between the two times, and then count the unique ones per room.

Was ok once I figured out the generate rows tool. Useful tool to know of - that's why I do the challenges!

Generate rows to produce one row for each minute for each room and then group by room and count distinct individual minutes.

There must be a better way to convert the time string into a date/time function. But I was confused by the one tool solutions people were doing.

Pretty straight-forward. Could have done it with 2 tools, but it would have been really ugly in the multi-row tool! Instead cleaned up dates first then calculated.
