I ended up with 2 solutions

I did method 2 first which seemed like a lot of tools. Then I tried the buffer tool and it magically produced the output (although it may be .01 miles off due to buffering lol).

Since it was a spatial challenge, I had to see where the star was!

Used Poly-Build tool to assemble the framework for the star then used Summarize tool to Spatial-combine.
