I don't see why you'd have records with merchant1 being null, I filtered them out in my result, but otherwise match the output from the solution.

Not the most dynamic solution, but a solution nonetheless. Made a formula tool for each combination, tranposed, text to columns, founds unique and filtered the empties and arrived at the answer.

All done, I found it tricky to remove duplicate pairs in opposite columns, got there in the end
Really not happy with my solution...as it doesn't account for any more merchants, I'm going to attempt to hold off on looking at the solution until I make a better attempt at it, even though It might keep me up tonight... 😕
