Can someone please explain to me why it is not working in my way. What am I missing? Why is my logic wrong?

Loved this one, took me a minute to work out how to do it without additional information. Good old Distance tool 🙂

I was going crazy trying to figure out how to split the states between east and west... Then I struggled with the Mississippi/LA border east of the river...

Bit ugly, but I got there.
