My solution:

Loaded in a section of the Thames polyline file from the spatial package, buffered by 10m and used it in a spatial process to split the 1km trade area into North and South of the river:

A sneaky challenge!

The West co-ordinate needs to be negative as East is used as the positive direction in          co-ordinate systems. If you're anything like me then you had no idea this was the case before the challenge!

Kind of a quick and dirty solution, but working. Definitely need to work on my regex-skills. Wish I had taken this challenge two weeks earlier 😉

My first weekly challenge inspired by Inspire 19 and using a map input for the first time to source pubs north of the river.

I found the easiest way to filter out those points north of the river was to use the borough_name field.
