Here's my solution. I used the Name && Value (i.e., load from external file) for the "Style" portion of the application by saving non-null styles to a csv file.
Apps are probably the thing I'm worst at so this was nice practise for me and I learned heaps messing around in the interface designer. Not a fancy app but decent enough.
