Hi all!

Thank you to those who joined us in our virtual UG Netherlands meeting on February 20, 2025.

Special thanks to our speaker @Loes for an insightful talk on Blob inputs and outputs with Alteryx.

RECAP:

  1. Loes explained how Blobs (Binary Large Objects) are used to handle unstructured data and writing to Excel templates in Alteryx workflows.
  2. She discussed all the tools that are required to handle blob data, namely, Blob Input, Blob Convert, Blob Output, Base 64 Encoding, and Base64 Decoding.
  3. Two main use cases discussed were as follows:
    1. Enhancing Excel reports by creating customized templates and writing data to specific ranges.
    2. Generating draft email files with attachments for review before sending.
  4. She also informed that Blob has several other advanced use cases like downloading unstructured data from REST APIs and using Blob data for Alteryx Intelligence Suite Computer Vision tools for AI/ML applications.
  5. In conclusion, she emphasized on the flexibility and efficiency of using Blob tools in automating complex data tasks.
  6. The audience found the use cases very practical, some even stated that they can see instances in their own work where they can deploy these methods for writing outputs to Excel templates.

Please find the attached .zip file containing demo workflows and a .pdf file containing the presentation.
