Happy Halloween, all!

First off, we'd like to ask you to fill out our survey so we can best tune our meetings to what the group prefers. Click here to take the survey!

We've had a great couple of meetings in June and October. It was great connecting and reconnecting with the folks who showed up and we're looking forward to our next get together already. Here's a quick recap of our last couple meetings:

June 26th: Inspire Recap, Center of Excellence & Reporting Tools

We met at the WeWork Pioneer Square on the heels of Inspire Nashville. We heard about code-friendly integration into Alteryx via Python & had a sneak peak on the new guided predictive analytics tools. @davidhenington then shared on how Cambia has set up a Center of Excellence around Alteryx. He has found value in the CoE sharing best practices and connecting across departments. He also dove into some tips & tricks around In-Db tools.

@chriswilliams41 stepped up to share how he builds end-to-end workflows from data pull to end deliverable by utilizing the Reporting tools. He highlighted how the new Report Layout tool greatly improves the Reporting toolkit and how to ensure that your vision gets implemented within the reporting tools. The Reporting tools can be confusing and require particular setup to work correctly. Chris demystified these pitfalls: how to combine different reporting elements, output reports in different formats, email reports, ensure chart labels appear, etc.

October 24th: 2019.3 + beta updates, Mapbox integration, Python in Alteryx

After we took in the rooftop view of downtown and the fall colors on the West Hills from WeWork Power & Light, we had an Alteryx engineer drop into our meeting to share what just came out and what's upcoming on the platform. There were some great functionality updates the community has been asking for for a while!

-  Output Sort/Filter tools to workflow from Browse

-  Convert tools (ex. browse to output)

-  (beta) Assisted Modeling demo

If you've ever wondered how you can get map data like smartphone apps use, Mapbox is a great source. One of our resident GIS experts, @ryancallihan , shared about Mapbox API capabilities and previewed a few macros they built for Alteryx. We'll get a more in depth Demo when Mapbox comes down to Portland (hopefully for our December meeting). Ryan broke down how analysts can use map APIs and got us pumped to learn more next time.

To close out the meeting Theo Lindsey and I dove into how to use the Python tool and why you'd use it. We are excited to see additional code-friendly toolkits and integration in the Alteryx platform. The integration makes it easier to use both tools to their strengths -- getting data prepped for modeling in Alteryx and doing advanced modeling or machine learning in Python. This allows data scientists and analysts to work more closely together. Plus, Alteryx is an easy way to schedule and deploy Python code.

I demoed how to quickly create a 3D chart in Alteryx/Python and then Theo, a data scientist, dove into a couple workflows that used Python's api capabilities and machine learning libraries.
