Hello everyone,

My name is Richard.  I have been an Alteryx user approximately 5 years.  During this time, I have been hearing about all the interesting goings on in user groups around the country and wondered why KC wasn't represented.  Well, no longer...

Welcome to the Kansas City Alteryx User Group!

Please take a moment by answering the questions below to introduce yourself to the Kansas City User Group Community.

  1. What is your name and industry you work in?
  2. What are your favorite weekend activities?
  3. How do you currently use Alteryx?
  4. What areas would you like to grow in?

For my part...

  1. I work in telecommunications (CenturyLink).
  2. I don't have weekend activities, my children do (I'm just along for the ride).
  3. I use Alteryx mostly for geographic analysis or manipulating data to do geographic analysis.
  4. I just want to get some exposure to the ways others are using Alteryx so that I can leverage the tool to its potential.

  2. Hiking, Fishing, anything outside or about anything that you can do on a patio.
  3. I use Alteryx to prep data for visualizations and reports. I also use it for specific data manipulation activities that is impossible in native systems. Lastly, I use it for analysis to test hypotheses and some machine learning applications.
  4. I would like to grow in statistical analysis, data source connectivity, automation, see how others might be using server and the gallery in similar industries.

Hello Richard, thank you for starting this group.

I'm sorry I missed our first meeting, but I will definitelly be looking forward to the next chance.

Ok, to introduce myself:

  1. What is your name and industry you work in? Francisco, Engineering and Construction (Black & Veatch).
  2. What are your favorite weekend activities? Spend as much time as possible with my kids: Cooking / Grilling, Books and Movies (theater / Netflix / our collections), Legos, Trains, Imaginative (dress-up, forts, tippies, etc.). Maybe sqeeze in a nap if I can, and a grown-up movie once they are in bed.
  3. How do you currently use Alteryx?  I am an auditor, so I use alteryx (mostly) reviewing financials transactions (i.e. payments to vendors, expense reimbursements, etc.) with an especific test in mind (potential duplictae paymnets, searches for risky keywords, etc.) I also use Alteryx to prepare data for further analysis in reporting/visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
  4. What areas would you like to grow in? As a business user, not an IT specialist, I could definitelly grow from learning how others use the software, and potentially finding ways to further automate/streamline tests (i.e. preparing macros / read from/write to live databases, etc.)

  1. Brad and I work in agriculture (Cargill)
  2. I like to go to Royals games, coach my kids teams, and have quite dinner with my wife.
  3. I've only had Alteryx about 3 months, but its replaced quite a bit of my ETL process through SQL Server. I also use the geo-spatial capabilities. I have several large projects I am going to use R for in the next 6 months.
  4. I'd like to expand my knowledge of R and build out my app and macro capabilities.

I should have asked if anyone was going to attend to the Alteryx Conference last month but I didn't get on here in time. I thought it was a good event and am looking forward to next year's as well.

Howdy KCAUG!

My name is Ron House, and I've been a long time user of Alteryx, although I've only just recently gotten back into it after a 3 year hiatus. I'm currently Web Developer for the County of Johnson County, KS, and while the County is not an Alteryx customer I use Alteryx (for Good) on specific Code for Kansas City projects to benefit the Greater KC Metro Area. Most recent project - generating hundreds of pdf flyers to promote the Side Lot Project for the KCMO Land Bank (read my blog on it here: http://alteryxuser.blogspot.com/2016/06/alteryx-for-good-kansas-city-land-banks.html)

On the weekends I have a number of personal web development projects I'm involved in, write on my blog and spend time with my wife and dog - and kids when they are in town.

Among other projects, I currently use Alteryx participating on the Property Violations Data Analytics Project for Code for KC to analyze KCMO property violations data using the R and Data Analytics Tools, which I am working on expanding my knowledge of.

Thanks!
