Losing data in sort tool

Has anyone lost data using the sort tool? I was using the tool and my data went from 1.5M records to 608K. I have never seen this before and was wondering if anyone else has come across this?

That result certainly sounds odd to me.  Can you attach a sample workflow that we can try to diagnose?
