In addition to adding new features and functionality, we’re working to make the Alteryx user experience more intuitive. Here are a few of the tweaks we have made recently to improve things. Look for them in the next release!
- When you add a Browse tool, a message currently complains: No data available. (Did you forget to run the module?) We’ve changed this to be helpful to brand-new users. It now prompts: (Press Ctrl+R to run the module).
- The CASS tool configuration features an Urbanization Field. Those new to CASS certification might not realize that this field is used for Puerto Rico addresses, so we have added a little text to explain that.
- Additionally, some folks thought CA SOA Reports might refer to California. We now spell out “Canada.”
- Do you ever get tired of setting the Data Set or Base Map each time you add a tool to your module? You will soon be able to enter Dataset Defaults (under User Settings) for all tools that use them. And we’ve added a tip to explain that by using “Most Recent Vintage,” Alteryx automatically uses the latest version whenever a new dataset is installed.
- The Input and Output buttons on the side of the Properties window have been modified to match the vertical flow of the Alteryx tools.
- In a Select tool, you can right-click and drag multiple rows to move them all at once. At Inspire, when this was demonstrated to current users, their unbridled screams of delight helped us realize this feature is a bit hidden, so we added a tip.
- The authoring of Analytic Apps (aka “Wizards”) really harnesses the power of Alteryx, but it isn’t as simple as it should be. We’re working on some larger improvements, but in the meantime we have adjusted the text to be more informative.
- We also added a new sample exercise to walk you through the current App authoring process. Find it in the Alteryx Help menu in the next release. (Help -> Index -> Getting Started -> Quick Start Manual -> Exercise 9)
We hope these changes help, and we have more on the way, as well as some larger modifications to improve your user experience. If you have suggestions for usability improvements, please send me an email: gjones at alteryx.com.
