If you have ever been to an Inviso training, you’ve probably noticed that we emphasize the importance of documenting your workflows quite frequently, because it will help collaboration across your company and makes it even easier to troubleshoot your work in case you need it. Documenting your workflows is definitely part of Inviso’s best practices, and we encourage all our clients to make use of it. If you’d like to know more about documentation, check out this Community blog post!

How documentation appears is of great importance for your team and organization. Think about the advantages of being able to present a workflow where the audience can see in mere seconds that it was created by your company. Visual indicators such as colors and fonts could represent your brand.

In order to avoid every user needing to paste in the visual company identity every time manually, you can create a template and share this throughout your organization. As everything is possible in Alteryx, there is of course a solution to this problem as well! Sound good? Then let’s get started!

  1. As you may know, it is possible to change the background color of comment boxes and tool containers in Alteryx. Whenever a comment box or tool container is marked, we are presented the following possibilities:

  1. Click on the ellipses (…) next to “Background Color” and simply mark one custom color at a time
  2. Paste in your RGB color code and you are ready to go with company-specific custom colors
  3. Create a CustomColors file within your Registry Editor (Regedit). To find the file, search for “Regedit” and open this prompt. A window will pop up asking you whether you “want to allow this app to make changes to your device” or not. Confirm with “yes”

  1. A new window will pop up (see below), in which you should be able find a CustomColors file for Alteryx. It can be found following the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER → SOFTWARE → Alteryx → SRC → SrcLib_DII → CustomColors

  1. Once you find the folder CustomColors, right click it and export the file, and you are ready to share it with your team
  2. Your colleagues simply need to replace the “CustomColor” folder on their computer with the one you sent, and you will all share the same color palette

Now we want to encourage you to go ahead and improve your workflows with documentation while simultaneously developing the visual identity of your firm. Please be aware that you might need help from IT in order to change things in the registry, but once they see how awesome the workflows look, I am sure they will be on board!
