Data Science

Machine learning & data science for beginners and experts alike.
CristonS
Alteryx Alumni (Retired)

Our annual customer conference, Alteryx Inspire, welcomes colleagues from all industries, backgrounds and avocations. This means analysts, IT professionals, data scientists, rubbing elbows, sharing tips and tricks, and always learning more.

For those of you fortunate enough to come to Inspire 2019 in Nashville or London, you may have gotten to see our own data scientists and stellar customers present these sessions. For those of you who could not attend, we wanted to highlight some of the decks that we believe provide a solid foundation in data science, even if you’re not listening in a lecture hall wishing for a cup of coffee and counting down ‘til the Grand Prix.

SOUNDS OF (DATA SCIENCE) 101
Data science is truly based on the scientific method, with hypotheses, explorations, and experiments — lots and lots of experiments. In this session, Heather Harris walks you through the data science framework using an airline guest case study. Expect to hear discussions on how to identify a relevant business question, implement data collection methods, design multiple machine learning experiments, and report effective conclusions.

But What are they Saying?

There is a certain amount of extrapolation when looking at the slides from a session you weren’t actually listening to. We’d love to highlight @LindseyZ 's Ask Me Anything: Straight Talk with a Real Citizen Data Scientist, but the bulk of that good stuff is clearly the q&a.  An interesting point about seeing the decks alone is how the presenter structured the talk, reading the key points, and figuring out what questions to ask next. You may not get to hear our Chief Data Scientist @DrDan explain all the interesting math you see in his slides for Decisions, Decisions: Optimizing with Alteryx, but you’ll walk through a couple interesting uses cases that might be enough to get you thinking about your own optimization business problem.

Glean some great tips and key considerations from the slides for Machine Learning in Practice, by @AndrewK.  Hear the Five Steps to Building an Analytics Driven Culture, by @JoshH

Perhaps this will whet your appetite for Inspire 2020 in New Orleans and Amsterdam this year. Get started with our new Data Science Learning Path, bring your questions to the Solutions Center, and submit your use case to present your own tech track session.  See you there!
