join problem

Hi, I have a question about joining tool. I am currently using about 5 join tool consequently and I found the total output at the end of joining is more than the original data. The first 2 joins show the same output as original data. For example, total data before joining is 200 records and after second join, the data is remain the same. However, when it comes to the third until fifth join, the data increases to 220. How do I check where do the additional data comes from? How to solve this problem?

The quick answer is that one of your input files to the join has more than one record per join key.

I would recommend using a unique tool to find out where and why this is happening.

Later, you can use a test tool or crew macro to test that the input counts are equal to the output counts.

Cheers,

Mark
