On March 19th, the Boston group convened at Bentley University for our Q1 meeting, partnering with Tableau User Group leaders to highlight analytics from the student community. Seven participants competed for first place presenting innovative analytic applications. Heemakshi Deka was named champion for her compelling analysis of H1-B visa sponsorship, seamlessly integrating data preparation and visualization. Her confident storytelling was supported by an interactive dashboard, built from multiple cleaned and consolidated datasets for in-depth analysis. Anna Kotlan presented an analytical tool, with web-scraped data, to assist Bentley University’s community in selecting classes for the upcoming semester. This insightful application helps the university anticipate class demand. Elsa White demonstrated an Alteryx workflow analyzing tennis data to identify unique attributes of three star players. Her workflow incorporated dynamic inputs, a unique tool, and reporting tools, showcasing her mastery of the platform. She exported the results to Excel, guiding the audience through her analysis with clarity. Bentley University provided an excellent platform to showcase the passions of the next generation of leaders. The university has effectively integrated analytics into its finance and accounting curriculum, with the majority of participating students being Alteryx core certified—a testament to their commitment to data-driven education. The Boston Alteryx Group concluded 2024 with presentations from Mikael & Rebecca 😊   Mikael, a senior data engineer from NKT Photonics, presented on scaling Alteryx for cost-effective enterprise computing. He detailed his company's transition from cloud-based Alteryx Server to on-premise Alteryx Designer, highlighting significant cost savings and performance improvements. Mikael's tests showed that on-premise machines, particularly powerful workstations, outperformed cloud solutions by a factor of 10 in terms of cost and runtime efficiency.   Rebecca, a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst from Staples, followed with a presentation on dynamic scheduling using Alteryx Server and control containers. She emphasized efficient resource utilization for large, infrequently updated workflows. Rebecca's presentation walked us through how macros can be used to implement dynamic scheduling within Alteryx workflows.
