Bringing an eventful, rewarding and memorable year to a close is by no means an easy task. Around this time each December, we spend hours deciding the people, the venue, even the drink we wish to end the year with. One such gathering we wished to organize in immaculate fashion was the AUG Q4 meet, albeit a little different than your classic celebration. Blessed with 3 Road to INSPIRE awards and an Alteryx Excellence award, we decided to draw the curtains to this amazing year that all of us at Bangalore AUG experienced by sharing the cheer and joy with orphaned children at Sai Krushna Charitable Trust, a charity that provides them residence and quality schooling.
To give some background, Sai Krushna Trust was on-boarded as a charity supported by Alteryx For Good Bangalore chapter a few months ago. We wanted to take this opportunity to introduce the members of the AUG group to the work being accomplished through AFG and encourage them to contribute to the same.
The event was kicked-off by Subrat, our organizer-in-chief for the day who gave an overview of the AUG Bangalore chapter and the upcoming INSPIRE conference to be held in Nashville, Tennessee.
This was followed by Nezrin giving an update on the events that transpired at the INSPIRE conference in London, leaving us brimming with excitement for the next one at Nashville.
Next up was an interesting take on the game of Antakshari organized by Sharon, with Alteryx tools replacing the traditionally used songs. Our very own Alteryx master – Yug, won this fun-filled game that not only challenged one’s knowledge of Alteryx but also left the participants laughing and wanting more.
Coming to the best part of the day, a sumptuous yet simple spread of local delicacies was served as lunch by our kind and generous host – Vinod Cartik, the brains behind Sai Krushna Trust.
After satiating our appetites, we continued our interactions with the children at the trust, moved around the village and interacted with the local community, devoting time to understand the nature of their lives and establish relationships that would help in facilitating change for good.
Post this, we assembled again to continue with the last but most interesting part of our meet – discussing the use cases solved using the power of Alteryx.
The first use case was presented by Jerrin Thomas, CEO of Nu-pie services and Aashish Kaushik representing Capgemini. The problem that their client, a top FMCG firm faced was differential reporting combined with delays due to complex calculations being performed using Excel macros. Combining Alteryx’s analytics prowess with Tableau’s dashboarding capabilities, they successfully helped the company streamline financial reporting and in-turn save both time and money.
The final presentation of the day was delivered by myself, explaining the Alteryx Excellence award winning use case – Bringing Efficiencies to Charities through Alteryx For Good. Sai Krushna Trust was one of the primary beneficiaries of this endeavor, as the Alteryx workflow helps the staff at the school save almost 150 hours each year. This translates into quality education, a better living environment and contributes to an increase in the overall happiness of children at the school. Also, the $5000 won as part of the Excellence Award has led to the creation of a state-of-the-art computer and mathematical lab at the school, ensuring a brighter future for the children and better learning opportunities for years to come.
We ended the day with a visit to the aforementioned lab, observing real change executed at the grassroots level and marveling at the power of Alteryx, which not only helps save money for multi-billion dollar companies but has the ability to transform lives and promise a better future to those deprived of the blessings we so easily take for granted.
Heartfelt thanks to Vinod, our gracious host and User Group leads @ydmuley @Nezrin @scolaco @SubratDas5 for making this happen.
Shout-out to @MaddieJ @TuvyL @ToriA for the constant support that has made AUG Bangalore chapter a resounding success
A big thank you to everyone who came forth to attend this meet, graced us with their presence and shared our joy of giving back to the community.
We at AUG wish you all a very Happy New Year! Looking forward to an amazing 2019 and a fresh series of quarterly meets J
