Atlanta Users,

We are excited to begin the planning stages for our 3rd quarter meeting!  Please help us identify what you all as users are hoping to see next and/or if you are interesting in presenting or hosting the next event!

Looking forward to seeing you later next month.

Best Regards,

Greetings,

1. I may be able to get a large conference room at Assurant, depending on dates, times and rules. The office is located around where the new Braves Stadium is being built. Also, our video equipment is not the best.

2. I would be interested in learning if anyone has developed any continious auditing/monitoring mechanisms with alteryx.

Hi!  Thank you for volunteering!   We are looking at September 28th, would that date be available?  Also, could you go into more detail regarding auditing & monitoring?  There are few ways I personally review datasets with the scheduler etc.  What type of data/ reporting are you using and what is the outcome you are looking for?

Thanks again!  I look forward to meeting  you and hopefully we can get some answers for you!

Best Regards,

Hello,

I'll look into the availability on that date and then get back to you. Is there a preferred time for the group? After 3 pm? How many people typically attend?

In regards to auditing and monitoring...

Our group is working on developing continuous auditing and monitoring mechanisms with Alteryx and we would love to see how others do it. So example, let's says I make blue widgets and I wanted to make sure I am not making any red widgets or I wanted to make sure we are not making too many or too few blue widgets every day. I could set up an Alteryx workflow connect to the widget database, do the blending and perform this test and then report the results every day. So here are some items that I would like to explore.

  1. Are users using the reporting tools to create reports and what are some good practices around creating reports? Or are users just exporting all results to Tableau or some other data visualization tool to audit or monitor these items?
  2. If you are using reports, how would you know end users are looking at these reports?
  3. Are you/server in charge of sending the reports or did you set it up so that end users could go to the server and run the report without you?
  4. When and why did you decide to make the jump to a server if you have one? Or why did you choose the scheduler that could run workflows in the background instead of the server?
  5. Is there a way of setting up a workflow to only email out/ or alert you of results when there are exceptions (red widgets) or something is out of whack.
  6. Has anyone does something like this with income statement or general ledger data?
  7. How would you quantify your automation with Alteryx?
  8. How many workflows do you have set up and are they on a scheduler or there for the server to run?
  9. Is anyone using Alteryx to perform a risk assessment, such as looking at several items within a dataset and then calculating a risk score?
  10. How do you store and document your workflows so that others on your team can use them? Any best practices for documentation?

Let me know if that is what you were looking for in regards to auditing and monitoring and hopefully that is enough content.

Although I have a single user license for Alteryx Designer X64, I built a Continuous Controls Monitoring system on a Microsoft SQL Server platform.  We monitor financial, HR, Payroll, and Benefits transactions on a daily basis.  Email alerts are generated when an exception occurs and sent to the responsible party.  There is a link embedded in the email that opens up a webpage to see the exception.  The user can then update the status of the exception, enter notes, or add attachments. Let me know if you have any questions or need more information.

Wow, that is impressive.

I would love to learn more on how you did this. Would you mind walking me through your process or do you have some sample workflows that you might be able to share? We could chat briefly online or maybe you could present at the user group. Thanks for your time and letting me know that is possible.

I would be happy to present at the user group.  My presentation would not be based on using Alteryx , but more related to using data analytics to build a monitoring system on a Microsoft SQL Server platform.  I am sure you can leverage Alteryx to build a similar solution.

Very impressive indeed!  We would love to have you present!

The last few meetings have ranged from 3-5pm and/or 5:30-7:30; typically 2 hours depending on location etc.  We try to mix it up for users who can only come during or after work hours.  We also range from 20-30 users attending in the past but hope to increase those numbers.  Please pass the word!  Can you check the times available?  I'll reach out to the other leaders for input as well.  Thank you both!
