Stephen McDaniel, director of analytics at Tableau, really gets the connection between Tableau and Alteryx. Beyond the announcement today that Alteryx 8.5 will output to the Tableau TDE file format, the fact is that Alteryx and Tableau are:
Pushing analytics to the business person. Stephen uses the term “accidental analyst” to describe the person who has little statistical training, but finds themself in a role where they are providing data analysis
Disrupting the traditional BI vendors. Because they are appealing to the business users, and addressing fast analysis, Alteryx and Tableau are providing a new set of use cases that are enabling subject matter experts to benefit from analytics, and selling to the business instead of the IT audience.
Stephen’s session at Inspire 2013 was well attended, and went overtime as attendees shared ideas on how they might combine the products to solve a plethora of business problems.
