In my last blog I described how our new Salesforce app district in the Alteryx Analytics Gallery addresses the lack of analytic solutions around Salesforce.com for line-of-business analysts. The analytic apps that populate the Salesforce district blend customer and prospect data from Salesforce.com with any other relevant customer data, and deliver insight to help you identify new revenue opportunities, optimize marketing campaign effectiveness, improve planning and forecasting accuracy, set sales team deployment strategies, and more.
Many have asked if it is possible to combine Salesforce data with spatial analytics to allow sales people to optimize their time when calling on customers and prospects in a city. The second app in the new Salesforce district, Salesforce Sales Trip Optimizer, does exactly that, and can also find and rank additional opportunities en route so sales people can potentially call on new prospects while nearby.
The first step requires a salesperson to select a geographic area based on their sales territory, an appointment address with a radius around it, or a predefined standard geography. After selecting one or more Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes or an industry to target, the app goes into the D&B business file to find the best business-to-business opportunities by sales volume or total employees, and determines if matching company records are already in Salesforce.
The resulting report displays driving directions from Google Maps to the top five opportunities in their selected area, ordered so that travel time between locations is minimized. Then, the report lists up to 100 other businesses that could be new prospects, and displays them on a map so they can see their proximity to the top five opportunities. By running this app a week before a sales trip, a salesperson can effectively fill in gaps in their schedule so they can be meeting with potential clients instead of killing time in a parking lot before their next meeting.
I’ll be at Dreamforce next week in San Francisco, where we will be showing this app and others from the Salesforce district, as well as discussing a variety of ways you can enhance your Salesforce.com implementation with Alteryx Strategic Analytics. I’ll also be presenting "Accelerating the Sales and Marketing Cycle with Analytics" on Monday in the Cloud Expo Partner Theater, as well as hosting an informal table talk about omni-channel customer analytics during lunch on Tuesday. If you’re coming to the event as well, please stop by to say hello, either at one of these sessions or in Alteryx booth #1418. For full details, please check out our Dreamforce event page.
