Joe Francica and I might not see eye to eye on the best way to spend advertising dollars, but at least he is gracious enough to have posted my full response to his recent article "On Location Intelligence: New Buzz, Familiar Players" where I clear up some of the confusion in his article, at least as it relates to Alteryx.
The article addresses some of the older database vendors like Oracle and how they are spatially enabling their largely acquired technology stack, on the one hand, and how traditional GIS players like MapInfo are coming to the realization that cloud computing is real and viable for all things spatial on the other.
Glad to report that we have been doing for 13 years what both sides of the discussion have been working towards for nearly as long. The recent release of Alteryx web services (you can experiment with one of our cloud services powered by Alteryx here) is an industrial strength Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering configured with Alteryx!
