Making the most of the area's 200+% winter snow-pack? levels and river water depths of the spring-summer run-off at 50 year highs, Day 2 race stages of the ATC were built around spending the majority of the day on the Colorado River.

The starting line was actually in the Rancho del Rio camp, where on human-powered cycles of all kinds the teams raced south on highway 131 for the State Bridge transition area. The race route took a stealthy turn midway along the route, moving from the oil-packed gravel road to the old road, which at this point in time is little more than a two-track trail with enormous boulders scattered here and there along its length.

A neighboring Rasta Music Festival had attracted lots of illegally perched campers with tents also scattered along the old road where it rejoined 131 right above State Bridge. Some very confused and sleepy folks popped heads out to see what all the early morning commotion was about.

At the bridge, the foot and hand-cycle race continued along the old road to a raft launch tucked away along the flooded river banks and hidden by trees. From there, the remaining course was all raft-based, requiring the successful spotting and collecting of 5 strategically hidden check point 'words.'

After two grueling days and plenty of position jockeying, the final results reveal that teams were closely matched in waves of achievement that clumped teams together within pretty close finish times:
