Dean Stoecker, founder & CEO, presented in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, as a featured speaker/panelist at the Directions Magazine, LI GeoCloud 2010 conference, the first ever geospatial technology conference with cloud computing as its sole focus. The conference was held in the Newseum's Knight Conference Center.

The GeoCloud 2010 Conference Agenda

The conference hosted an impressive list of savvy technology executives, each with valuable insights to share into cloud computing and geospatial technology.

Dean spoke as a panelist on the PaaS: Infrastructure & Platform session. Here's the abstract of his 20-minute presentation, "Building in the Cloud without Risk – Requirements of Platform as a Service":

"Proprietary data and processes must remain secure while participating in hybrid geographic business intelligence applications accessed as services over the web. The solution for allowing the true integration of private and public cloud computing in a hybrid application/service will be revealed."

"Geographic business intelligence applications will remain limited in scope and power until the safe transaction across such barriers has been efficiently incorporated into a new breed of hybrid services. The architecture that eliminates this risk from the cloud computing model will deliver on the promise of unmatched ROI, while decreasing total cost of ownership for superior IT services."

This pioneering conference focuses on many of the industry's evolving issues, and Dean shared his unique insights with attendees. Some of the more timely takeaways for today's talk:

  • Location Intelligence isn't Geographic Business Intelligence®
  • Hosted Services: Great Training Ground but Long-Term Limitations
  • Software is a requirement for Geo-BI Cloud Services
  • Public, Private and Hybrid with single architecture is critical
  • Business Sustainability and Continuity are Ensured
  • Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is Greatly reduced; Time to Market is Short
  • Analysts become the Producers of applications, not just Developers
  • Cloud Services will Eventually Reach an Equilibrium of Desktop/Web
  • Never as Easy, Scalable or Extensible as the Vendor pitches
  • Risks can be High, but the Rewards Enormous
