This is a guest blog post from Thomas Dinsmore, Director of Product Management at Revolution Analytics.

Last week, Revolution Analytics announced the availability of Revolution R Enterprise 7 (RRE 7), the only Big Data Big Analytics platform powered by R, the standard for modern analytics. The new platform is now integrated with more data and compute environments and features a “write once deploy anywhere” functionality allowing data analysts and IT teams to more fully utilize a variety of data management platforms like Hadoop and second-generation enterprise data warehouses (EDW).

RRE 7 uses open source R 3.0.2 as a foundation, and Revolution Analytics has expanded stepwise capability in the ScaleR package to include support for stepwise logistic regression and stepwise generalized linear models. Stepwise regression markedly improves analyst productivity when working with “wide” data sets; it automates the model building by choosing and testing independent variables until it finds the best-fitting model.

For business analysts who want this type of power and scalability from of Revolution R Enterprise, but prefer to work in a user-friendly desktop environment without coding, Revolution Analytics collaborates with Alteryx. Three weeks ago, we announced our partnership with Alteryx to integrate, bundle and jointly go to market. This integration brings scalability and accessibility to the world of R-based predictive analytics. Also last week, Alteryx announced the ability to run those accessible and scalable models in-database in CDH (Cloudera’s Distribution Including Apache Hadoop). What we are seeing in the marketplace, and hence the need for these technology advances, is a fundamental shift – as more companies employ predictive analytics, they are moving away from proprietary systems to the open R language, which has many more practitioners. To make predictive analytics even more practical, Alteryx enables business users to drag and drop and configure entire R models to perform analyses such as A/B testing, Linear Regression, and Market Basket analysis. This accessibility, combined with the scalability provided by Revolution Analytics, is a game changer as it removes the barriers to wider adoption of R.

RRE 7 is available now for selected customers, and will be generally available on selected platforms starting in December 2013. The integration with Alteryx will be available in Q1 2014, so stay tuned. For more information, visit www.alteryx.com/revolutionanalytics
