How many times have you heard that preparing for a task is almost as important as the task itself? In our rapidly evolving world of business analytics, often the data preparation takes a lot more time than the analysis. Business and Data Analysts spend weeks preparing, cleansing, and tweaking their datasets. Would you like to change that? If you are a business analyst today running triage on a steady volume of requests for strategic analytics including visual analytics or Qlik Analytics across your organization – how do you spend your time? Would you prefer to spend your time stuck in the mundane steps of tweaking excel sheets,  importing .csv files, battling with your IT group to create the right data exports? OR would you actually like to get the time to do the analysis and provide the “business intelligence” for which your department might be named and your academic or work experience prepared you to do?

One of our Alteryx partners, Adrian Parker, (Qlik Luminary 2014) at Differentia Consulting wrote in a recent LinkedIn post regarding the decision point every business ends up at eventually:

"QlikView and Qlik Sense are both able to deliver many of the needs of a business when it comes to data preparation, however there will always be a point at which business rules that relate to data need to be serviced outside of Qlik for whatever reason. Where middle-ware meets the visualization layer."

That typical point at which it becomes better for the business to separate those data preparation tasks is usually yesterday. This is frequently accompanied by a tight timetable for multiple projects in queue with deliverables due this week. A little time invested in building a data prep workflow will pay off in dividends of time and accuracy for your delivery of advanced analytics. You might even reward yourself with the added benefit of enhancement with some advanced predictive and spatial analytics (without coding), all seamlessly integrated within the same data workflow in Alteryx.

Data preparation doesn’t have to be the usual painful experience you used to endure.Data Preparation for Qlik: Measure Twice Cut Once It can be efficient, reusable, and scalable and not require a data scientist to accomplish. Alteryx enhances your Qlik analytics experience by providing a platform to accelerate, automate and enrich your data preparation. This gives you more time to shape and analyze the visualizations in QlikView® or Qlik® Sense. Download the Alteryx Definitive Guide to Data Preparation for Qlik to learn more.
