This morning we announced the availability of our first industry-specific offering, Alteryx Strategic Analytics: Communications Edition. This is an exciting day for everyone here at Alteryx, but particularly so for the communications industry veterans like myself who joined Alteryx to help communications service providers humanize their Big Data assets. I'm proud to say that our current list of customers includes eight of the ten largest wireless operators, as well as other nationwide ILECs and Cable/MSOs, and with this release we'll be able to bring the power of Strategic Analytics to even more carriers.

Our success in the communications industry isn't surprising when you consider our strengths according to Gartner and Forbes, and the type of data you typically find within wireless, wireline, and cable service providers:

  1. BIG DATA. When people speak of the Volume, Velocity and Variety of Big Data, those of us in the Communications industry can certainly relate to that. Service providers rely on massive volumes of data from a multitude of different sources in every aspect of their business.

For example, there over 330 million wireless subscribers in the U.S., who collectively send 2.30 trillion text messages and spend 2.29 trillion minutes speaking on their phones every year (SOURCE: CTIA). Their carriers collect call detail records (CDR) about all aspects of these calls, including who made the call, who they called, which towers they came in contact with, what signal strength they received, why their call terminated, etc.

  2. SPATIAL DATA. When you think about it, nearly all of the Big Data that a carrier collects has a spatial, or geographic, aspect to it to give it relevance. Information about where their cell towers, central offices, and head ends are located, as well as what equipment is located within these locations and how these locations are connected, is critical to the operations of a service provider. And, other business-related spatial data, such as where retail stores are, or where customers/prospects are in relation to where specific services are available, are also very important.

With Alteryx Strategic Analytics: Communications Edition we're making it even easier for communications service providers to leverage their vast internal business and technical data, and support their most strategic network and customer decisions - faster and with more confidence than ever before. Specifically, the Communications Edition features three enhancements that are optimized for the needs of communications service providers:

  1. Communications industry-specific data from leading providers, including GeoResults. By integrating third-party insight with the existing demographic and firmographic data from Experian and D&B, service providers can identify and rank high-value market and customer prospects for network planning, new service offerings, competitive analysis, and regulatory activities.

  2. Industry-specific tools that support the most common industry data sources and types (including GRD/GRC from RF planning systems), and process massive amounts of raw technical data (e.g. for drive test post processing) with unprecedented speed.

  3. Integrated analytic templates that a service provider can customize according to their unique business priorities and processes, and immediately get insight into some of the most strategic challenges they face every day.

And this is just the beginning. As Alteryx Strategic Analytics is updated for Release 8.0 and beyond, the Communications Edition will get the same enhancements, as well as exciting new industry-specific content. Here's this morning's announcement, then check out the website for the full details.
