Alteryx Grand PrixWhat.a.night! The Alteryx 2016 Grand Prix is complete, and a new winner has possession of the Grand Prix Cup!

All competitors were well prepared for last night’s Grand Prix challenge, and certainly flexed their Alteryx muscle. Each contestant earned their own way to the main stage by outperforming their peers in the qualifying round, but nothing prepares you for building workflows in front of over 1,000 people. Friends, colleagues, and fellow conference goers cheer on contestants as they enjoy snacks and beverages. Bright lights are flashing all around, and music plays loudly. Voices are calling to the crowd over the loudspeaker as people chant “i.am.analytics”, all while everyone is watching you build your workflow live – talk about pressure!

Peter Muller, InfotopicsAs Scott Jones kicked off the Grand Prix last night at Inspire 2016 in San Diego, the five final drivers began dragging and dropping away to build workflows solving data blending, data preparation, and analytics problems. The hour-long competition went by like a flash, and in the end, Peter Muller of Infotopics proved his Alteryx skills were superior, and will be taking home the Grand Prix trophy to the Netherlands! When asked what advice he would give to those who might be considering nominating themselves for the Grand Prix next year, Peter said: “Enjoy it. It’s fun to stand in front of the whole crowd. So yes, you should try out!"

Dan Magnus of KPMG who was a finalist in both 2015 and 2016 shared that this year's "questions were a lot more real world." Jarrod Thuener, the 2015 Grand Prix champion, who assisted this year, but did not compete, said "it was still a little nerve-racking - but it was a blast!"

The Alteryx 2016 Grand Prix was a tough group of 5 competitors from across the globe, all proving they were deserving of their top 5 performance. Congratulations to Peter Muller of Infotopics, our 2016 Grand Prix champion, and our other four finalists:

  • 1st – Peter Muller, Infotopics
  • 2nd – Matthew Agee, Teknion Data Solutions
  • 3rd – Dan Magnus, KPMG
  • 4th – Matteo Borriero, MSX International
  • 5th – Jack Morgan, Charles Schwab

Inspire 2016 is off to an exciting start, and we can't wait to see what the week will hold!
