When trying to publish a new workflow to Gallery using Workflow Credentials in the following error occurs in Designer:

Entering credentials has been disabled

  • The MongoDB has been migrated recently from another machine
  • The Service logs show at startup of the Service the following error:
    • AlteryxService,,,,,,,,"AlteryxService_InitLocalEncryptedStorage_Error: Error importing keys to Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys\ directory in ProgramData: Bad Data. (-2146893819)"
  • Please note that this error message is different from the one described in https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Server-Knowledge-Base/Troubleshooting-quot-Entering-credent... and the root cause and solution are different

When the MongoDB was migrated from another machine the steps https://help.alteryx.com/current/server/server-host-recovery-guide were not followed completely. Especially, section 2 steps 2.5-  2.9 were skipped or not performed correctly.

Therefore the machine keys of current machine have not been used to encrypt passwords / keys of MongoDB.

Go through section 1 steps 6 - 9 of the Server Host Recovery Guide - https://help.alteryx.com/current/server/server-host-recovery-guide
