Environment Details

Recently upgraded from Alteryx 2019.4.8 to 2021.2.1 and experiencing intermittent connectivity issues between Designer/Server and Azure SQL databases.

  • Alteryx Server
    • Version(s) 2021.1.2
  • Azure SQL database
  • Publish to SQL database hosted on Azure
  • Permissions to firewall and DNS

Cause

Missing a gateway IP for the specific Azure region in the internal firewall rule that allows TCP 1433 traffic.  When the DNS resolves to an IP that is included, the connection works, and when the missing IP resolves, the connection fails.  By including the missing IP, it resolves the issue.

Resolution

Ensure the DNS and IP for the Azure Environment is included in the allow settings of the internal firewall permissions
