Time to update the number of cores for Alteryx Server in initial package ?

Hello all,

This may be a little controversial. As of today, when you buy an Alteryx Server, the basic package covers up to 4 cores :
https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Server-Knowledge-Base/How-Alteryx-defines-cores-for-licensi...

I have always known that. But these last years, the technology, the world has evolved. Especially the number of cores in a server. As an example, AMD Epyc CPU for server begin at 8 cores :

So the idea is to update the number of cores in initial package for 8 or even 16 cores. It would :
-make Alteryx more competitive
-cost only very few money
-end some user frustration

Moreover, Alteryx Server Additional Capacity license should be 4 cores.

Best regards,

Simon

Hello @MarcSchonwandt
Can I ask you to vote for if you're interested? I made all my coworkers to because it does insanely matter.

Best regards,

Simon

This is so true and needs to be actioned asap. with new advancement in technology. No Point in having 4 cores for server and 2 cores for worked node when AMP Engine cannot work ..

@simonaubert_bd Voted! Any news on this Alteryx? Tagging a few Alteryx people here as we don't quite know if this has been seen or not: @DanM, HenrietteH, LisaL, @BrandonB@SophiaF@StephV@FláviaB  )

Hello @MarcSchonwandt  Thanks. However, I think something went bad because your vote is not taken. It must be the top post and after the vote (the thumb up icon) should appear full blue instead of blue and white.

Best regards,

Simon

Hello @Atabarezz Thanks !

Just interested to know but does everyone here use physical servers for Alteryx?

Presumably if you have VM you can choose how many cores to expose?

Although that doesn't address the issue with the AMP requirement not being in line with the base license offering.

Hello @Paul_Holden  Not sure to get your point .. if you have the basic 4-cores licence, even if your VM is 16 or 64 cores, only 4 will be used.

Simon

@simonaubert_bd I was reading one of the issues raised by the thread as - "it's not possible any more to provision a server with just a the basic 4 core pack"

Whilst I fully understand that a 4 core server may not have the required capability I was just wanting to clarify if people really weren't able to do it at all?

I.e. can you provision a VM with only 4 cores and that will run on the basic offering without additional 2 core packs

I wanted to know if I was missing something about the validity of running a 4 core VM on the basic offering - since the hypervisor underneath will definitely have more than 4 cores.

Hope that makes some sense?

EDIT:

The other side of this being that if I only have 16 core servers (hypervisors) available I don't want to be forced to buy 16 cores worth of packs if my Alteryx workload will run quite happily on 8 cores.

(I think our hypervisors are actually 256 cores!)
