Server Error alerting

Although the connectivity to the eMail infrastructure is set up on the controller and worker nodes - there is no ability to set up automated alerting for errors on workflows from the server.

We would like to be able to set up the gallery as follows:

- Every job is owned by a user or a distribution list

- If that workflow throws an error or warning (this should be configurable on the server, whether warnings are included), then the author should be e-mailed with a link to the specific workflow and the error log.

This can be done in a round-about way, by running an error-reporting alteryx job after the fact - but this kind of alert needs to go out almost immediately given our dependance on Alteryx for specific SLAs.

@SeanAdams thanks for posting this idea. For this type of alerting system that would be tied to Server, is it sufficient to alert on jobs details only or would you see value in alerts going to Server admins for things like CPU usage or any other types of alerts?

Hey @JulieM

I think that there are several areas where we need to focus on improving alerting - thank you for prompting the question:

- Job issues

- Server problems (like you say - CPU usage; memory; disk space warnings)

- database issues(database issues)

- Controller issues (queue depth thresholds etc).

We have an internal alerting system that is based on something similar to SNMP - which still seems to be a very broad standard across server architectures - so this may be a good place to start thinking about broader alerting.  For example, the option for your admin group to be alerted by IM (Lync); EMail; SNMP alert; or a call to a custom JSON or REST API.

This is great - thanks @SeanAdams.  Marking this as under review and will keep this post updated as we understand more about how to fit this into officially being on the roadmap.  I hope anyone else that may have interest will add votes and comments as well.  Thanks!
