Allow In-DB tools to use Shared Gallery Data Connections

The shared data connections from the Gallery have been very helpful in centralizing data connection information between desktop users and their workflows when saved to the Gallery. The In-DB tools currently cannot take advantage of the Gallery Data Connections and require a completely separate setup that is both confusing and adds additional connection management work for creation/password changes. 

It would be a great enhancement to Alteryx if all connections for the different types of tools could be centrally managed from the shared Data Connections manager found in the Gallery.

Thanks @rdoptis for sharing the idea. We completely agree and have heard this from other customers. This request is already noted as a possibility. As announced during Inspire in London, we are excited to roll out our next generation platform in 2019. This platform will feature a new version of a connection manager.

Currently Alteryx 11.x+ does not support Gallery data connections for In-DB connections, it would be nice to have these In-DB connections on Gallery thus providing ability to easily collaborate with others when using these In-DB connections. Right now we are saving to .indbc file and sharing that file.

After further review of the idea we no longer will have this feature specifically on the roadmap. We may address this with alternative features in the future.

Making in-DB connection available and shareable on Gallery would be a great improvement in connection management!

Not only would it provide great connection management but would enable more complete product functionality as In-DB tools are faster and more versatile to create Analytical Apps than Input Data Tools. In-DB tools are indispensable to make SQL queries dynamic and filter by user at runtime, the alternative many times is to incorporate filters into the SQL of the Input Data Tool and makes functionality rigid instead of flexible. Any tool that enables complex DB connectivity should have a counterpart on the Server side.

Can we have more information on this ? In-DB is a huge thing in term of performance, gallery is as huge in term of UI... so mixing both seems a pretty good idea. I understand you have something else in mind that the suggestion. I'm more than impatient to hear about that 🙂
