"Disk full: Out of disk space" — Alteryx Server AMI from AWS Marketplace

We launched an EC2 instance using the Alteryx Server AMI from AWS Marketplace but it's not accessible in any way. The usage instructions say that a login page should be available at the public DNS/IP of the instance but entering it into a browser, errors with a timeout. We tried RDP as well but that timed out as well. The instance's system log & instance screenshot show nothing unusual.

Another Windows Server 2012 R2 Base EC2 instance of the same type (r4.2xlarge) in the same subnet using the same security group & key pair was readily accessible, so the network configuration is all OK.

We created an AWS support case for this & they came back with the following:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting AWS Support. My name is Ivan and I will be helping assist with your case today.

I understand that you are having issues accessing an EC2 instance that was launched from the Alteryx Server AMI in the AWS Marketplace.

I have been able to partially recreate the issue you are describing. When launching the latest AMI from https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/B06XH48D5X?ref=cns_1clkPro#pdp-usage I am able to successfully reach the server via RDP, however, I see failures attempting to communicate over ports 80 and 81. When connecting to the server via RDP, I do not see any Alteryx Windows Services installed. Additionally, when running the netstat command I do not see ports 80 or 81 listening on the server.

When checking in the Application logs I see references to Alteryx installation problems due to insufficient free space:

Log Name: Application
Source: MsiInstaller
Date: 6/16/2020 5:44:38 PM
Event ID: 11601
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: IP-AC1F2CCA\Administrator
Computer: WIN-1AHOAQN5D7F
Description:
Product: AlteryxProductName -- Disk full: Out of disk space -- Volume: 'C:'; required space: 3,545,208 KB; available space: 3,124,092 KB. Free some disk space and retry.

The above event points to an issue when the AMI was first created. AWS Support does not manage AMI's located on the AWS Marketplace. You will need to reach out to Alteryx support directly to help resolve this issue.

Best regards,
Ivan T.

Hey @HarishKM

The better way is to put all this in an email and send to support@alteryx.com so they can take care of it 🙂
