Unable to upgrade Server from 2022.1 to 2022.3

We have tried multiple times but upgrading Alteryx Server version from 2022.1 to any version higher has been very problematic. We first tried upgrade from 2022.1 to 2024.x but got a 'custom CSS error' or something. Support informed us that this a known defect and we should hop from to a lower version.

We choose 2022.1 to 2022.3 , did all steps like Migration prep tool etc. Installation went on smoothly, configured server by doing next-next window steps. The server config shows server/gallery all working but ultimately the Server just won't start. Alteryx_Service shows in 'Stopped' state and it cannot be started manually. Logs had one line that 'migration has failed' but migration logs shows MongoDB migration went well.

And after what time does Alteryx service start, should we leave it as it is for 15 to 20 minutes?

we'd always go to alteryx support... specially for upgrade errors -  everything is technically new... there was even a point wherein first the license was accepted and then the next thing you'll know it is not accepted.

Others could also share their experiences! It seems Alteryx Server upgrades are really buggy!

Since you didn`t mention it, I`m not sure if you executed the pre-upgrade checks. https://knowledge.alteryx.com/index/s/article/server-pre-upgrade-checks

This application fixes some MongoDB issues that may impact your upgrade. For example, if one of the users does not have a last name, your service will not start.

Sometimes, the Runtimesettings can get corrupted during the upgrade and may be a good idea to delete it and reconfigure your Alteryx System settings from scratch.

This file basically records all the options you selected when configuring your system settings and also has some encrypted keys, and these sometimes can give you a hard time. By starting from scratch, these keys will be recreated and might solve your issue

Before doing so, please save a backup of the file and recreate the configuration exactly like before to avoid any weird issue.
