Data Connection - More Specific Permissioning for Using Data Connections

I have submitted an idea here: https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Designer-Ideas/Data-Connection-More-Specific-Permissioning-...

But, in general, I am running into an issue with data connections where I need to grant people to run a workflow that uses a certain data connection but I don't want them to have full access to use that data connection in their own development. We have it writing to a log table that our end users shouldn't be able to write to themselves. Just because the data connection has full write access doesn't mean we want any users running this workflow that have Designer to be able to pull in an Output tool and suddenly write to this log table. We have been encouraging everyone to use data connections so that we are not embedding passwords but as of right now, I can't think of a way to use data connections for this instance.

We are looking for a way to have a data connection in a workflow without giving all of the running users full access to use that connection in their workflows. Almost a proposal of two tiers of permissions:

  • Access to use a data connection in a workflow you are running
  • Access to use a data connection in a workflow you are building
