Alteryx Workflow error failed with error "TCP Provider: A connection attempt failed"

Question

Our Alteryx Workflows connected to SQL Servers are failing Intermittently with error "TCP Provider: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server]Communication link failure[Microsoft][ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server]Protocol error in TDS stream"  The workflows connects to the data connection added in gallery. Can anyone help us out on this issue, we have also reached out to alteryx support with a case.

Hi albert_alaluf,

We restricted the record limit to 1000 and we could observe the workflow is getting executed without any errors, But when we increase the size of data to 10000 or more than that we see this error occurring. Even when we see this error partially records are being extracted somehow the connection is getting disconnected when extracting records.

Hi @vatsan19

When you said intermittently, my understanding is sometimes it doesn't work. I suggest you try to run the same workflow at different times, busy hours, and off hours. Also, work with your SQL server admin and ask the timeframe you got an error to find an error on server logs. You may try Fiddler or wireshark traces in real time to see if your request is reaching the server and the server's response. Wireshark may show the reason for the fail.
