Alteryx version dedicated to Mac OS X?

Idea:

An Alteryx version for Mac OS X sounded like a nice idea... Although there are options for using bootcamp with windows 7-8

or some virtualisation software as mentioned in a community post here.

Rationale 1 (Competitors do it):

First of all there is no need to neglect a customer segment using Mac's.

  • Rapidminer Studio comes with a dedicated OS X version,
  • Knime has Mac OS X support
  • Weka has Mac OS X support as well
  • SPSS Modeler is Windows only but SPSS Stats is Mac OS X compatible.

Seems SAS was compatable in the last decade, but they dropped it. Now SAS is not OS X compatible but

still with the "SAS OnDemand" version Mac users can easly get a hands on experience.

Rationale 2:

The Mac Pro Beast has 7.2 TFlops of computing power with the help of dual ATI graphics cards.

It would be awesome to install Alteryx on one...

Thanks @Atabarezz and everyone for sharing your request and up voting it. We agree there is a need to support our customer base that uses Mac OS and this is something we are hoping to address. To help validate our assumptions, do you want Alteryx Designer to run natively in Mac OS or would a fully functional browser based version work?

Go Native :-)

A native application would be preferable from our end as well.

@MattB A native app is preferable as it usually will be better performing and more aligned with the osx functionality, which cannot be overstated. For example, many native apps have services associated with the applications that allow a user to interact with the application outside of the application itself. This allows for automation and integration beyond what the developer necessarily intended. Additionally, a native app allows a mac user to work with the application in a way that is familiar and intuitive. Having said that, anything that does not involve a VM would be a great improvement. And just to be clear, alteryx is awesome. I actually want to use it more.

We are all Mac here, and without a Mac app, further adoption will be minimal here. The last thing we want to do is host a bunch of Windows VMs *just* for Alteryx.

Re: native vs web perference ... Native. Similar to Tableau Desktop, the native app is far more powerful than the web and I would imagine Alteryx would be a similar experience.

Great support thanks guys,

I deeply understand and give credit that;

  • developing at first,
  • user acceptance testing,
  • then bug fixing all the time,
  • maintaining and
  • giving support to customers

for two very different OS is really huge work.

But then the Mac OS community is so big and powerful that they are non-negligible...

Excel eventually has a Mac version, tableau as well, so Alteryx has to be...

Our full support with love goes to the strategy @LangleyE and product development team @AshleyK sincerely :)

I am hoping to Alteryx to do spatial analysis in my dissertation and a Mac Native version would be the best for me!
