I was wondering if anyone has a video tutorial on building an API connector in alteryx. I read in one of the comments the process was discussed during inspire 2017. A link to that video would be helpful. However, if anyone has made a video on how to build your own connector, please share that with me. I have looked at "Guide to Creating Your Own Connector" series in Alteryx Help but don't understand most of it since i am a student and new to alteryx.
Video tutorial of building any API connector will be great as i would assume the process will be the same for all.
Is there a particular API that you are interested in connecting to? There are some general concepts that we can cover, but there can be a decent amount of variation between API's so if you have one in mind it might be best to cater the discussion to that one in particular.
@BrandonB I'm looking to build a connector with BingAds or Google Analytics. I know Google Analytics macro has already been built but it would be nice to know how it was made. Hopefully these two API's follow similar steps.
You are in luck! If you right click on the Google Analytics tool you can actually select "Open Macro" and see how the process works behind the scenes. Google Analytics uses Oauth which is a handshake process for authentication. Then it passes the bearer token into a second download tool to pull the data. This one is a bit more complex than most API calls because it was built into an easy to use connector, but most will be as simple as a text input tool and a download tool.
I worked with BingAds a few years ago and it was leveraging a SOAP API which is a bit different and honestly pretty complex for your first attempt at an API call. It requires you to write out xml in the body of the API call and isn't much fun to build yourself.
Here is an easier example that you might like to start to get the concepts of a simple API call without any authentication. This calls a list of cat facts from a website that someone built for fun: https://cat-fact.herokuapp.com/#/
I'm giving the BingAds connector a try. I think I completed the Authentication Portion. I was wondering if you can give me some sort of guide for the data pull portion since you have worked with it before.
