SMTP Configuration of Common Email Providers

Overview


Below is a list of the most common email providers along with each of their SMTP settings. These are required in the configuration of the Email Tool and Email Events.

When utilizing a work or school-provided email address, refer to the appropriate SMTP information provided by the organization's IT Department.
 

SMTP Settings

 

Outlook/Office365

SMTP: smtp.office365.com
Port: 587
Encryption: STARTTLS
SMTP Authentication: Enabled
Username: <Email Address>
Password: <Password>

GMail

To use a Gmail account in the Email Tool your Google account must be set up with "Two-Step Validation" and you'll need to create and use an "App Password" as the password in the Email Tool rather than your normal password.

  1. Log in to your Google account
  2. Click your avatar in the upper right
  3. Click Google Account > Manage Your Google Account
  4. Click Security and scroll to the  Signing in to Google section
  5. Ensure you have 2-Step Verification ON
  6. Click ">" next to App passwords
  7. Choose Select App = Mail and Select Device = Other
  8. Click Generate
  9. Copy this password (it has spaces in it) to use in the next section.

Configure the Email Tool as shown below.  Use the password generated above instead of the password you typically use to log in to Gmail in the Password section below:

SMTP: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Encryption: STARTTLS
SMTP Authentication: Enabled
Username: <Email Address>
Password: <APP_PASSWORD_GENERATED_ABOVE>

Yahoo Mail

SMTP: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 587
Encryption: STARTTLS
SMTP Authentication: Enabled
Username: <Email Address>
Password: <Password>

AOL Mail

SMTP: smtp.aol.com
Port: 465
Encryption: SSL/TLS
SMTP Authentication: Enabled
Username: <Email Address>
Password: <Password>

iCloud

SMTP: smtp.mail.me.com
Port: 587
Encryption: STARTTLS
SMTP Authentication: Enabled
Username: <Email Address>
Password: <Password>

SendGrid

SMTP: smtp.sendgrid.net
Port: 465 (for SSL), 587
Encryption: STARTTLS
SMTP Authentication: Enabled
Username: apikey
Password: <insert api key>
