How to Enable Jupyter Server Log

Jupyter Server log is no longer created by default from version 2020. This article provides the instructions to enable the log.

Prerequisites

  • Alteryx Designer
    • Version 2020 and above

Procedure

  1. Close Alteryx Designer.
  2. Go to C:\ProgramData\Alteryx.
  3. Look for "RuntimeSettings.xml".
  4. Open the "RuntimeSettings.xml" file on a text editor such as Notepad.
  5. Add <JupyterServerLog> tag before </SystemSettings> tag.
    <JupyterServerLog>
        <LoggingEnabled>True</LoggingEnabled>
        <LoggingPath>C:\ProgramData\Alteryx\Engine\JupyterServerLog.log</LoggingPath>
        <LoggingSeverityThreshold>4</LoggingSeverityThreshold>
        <LoggingFileMaxMB>10</LoggingFileMaxMB>
    </JupyterServerLog>

NOTE: The "C:\ProgramData\Alteryx\Engine" must exist. If not, you can change it to another existing path.

This is how it should look like:

If the "RuntimeSettings.xml" file is not found in C:\ProgramData\Alteryx, you may create one with the following content or use the "RuntimeSettings.xml" file in this article. Please only use this copy if you do not already have this file.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<SystemSettings>
 <JupyterServerLog>
  <LoggingEnabled>True</LoggingEnabled>
  <LoggingPath>C:\ProgramData\Alteryx\Engine\JupyterServerLog.log</LoggingPath>
  <LoggingSeverityThreshold>4</LoggingSeverityThreshold>
  <LoggingFileMaxMB>10</LoggingFileMaxMB>
 </JupyterServerLog>
</SystemSettings>
