Image Input tool cannot extract PDF file containing JPEG 2000 images

 

Environment Details

 

Image Input tool returns an empty image for images that are encoded in JPEG 2000 in the PDF file.

The following screenshot (as seen in File Explorer) shows an empty image output from Image Output tool after reading the PDF file from Image Input tool:

Cause

 

The library used in Image Input tool does not support the use of JPEG 2000 images (jp2, jpx). Defect GCSE-1073/TISE-199 has been logged to address this.
 

Resolution

Until the library has been updated to support the JPG2000 image encoding, please avoid using these images in PDF files.
