Error: "TypeError: Cannot read property ‘token’ of undefined" with Publish to Tableau Server tool

The following error is seen when configuring the Publish to Tableau Server tool with your credentials:
 

TypeError: Cannot read property ‘token’ of undefined

Cause

The Server URL is misformatted.

Resolution

Reformat the Server URL:

Tableau Online

1. Enter the Server URL as the root of the Tableau Online URL you connect to, excluding anything including /#, etc.

• Correct formatting: https://10ay.online.tableau.com
• Incorrect formatting: https://10ay.online.tableau.com/#/site/mycompanysite/workbooks

2. Enter the Site you connect to, which is the value after /site/ in the URL.

• For https://10ay.online.tableau.com/#/site/mycompanysite/workbooks the Site is mycompanysite

Tableau Server

1. Enter the Server URL used to log on to Tableau Server, excluding anything including /#, etc..

• Correct formatting: https://tableau.mycompany.com
• Incorrect formatting: https://tableau.mycompany.com/#/workbooks/1/views

2. Enter a Site if you are using anything other than the default site.

• The URL used for Default does not specify a site. For example, the URL for a view named Profits on a site named Sales would look like http://tableau.mycompany.com/#/site/sales/views/profits. The URL for this same view on the Default site would be http://tableau.mycompany.com/#/views/profits.
